Dr Gordon Knowles contributes, via legal instruction, to proceedings where concerns exist for risk, mental state, vulnerability and competence on the part of children, young people and adults (including parenting capacity).
Clinically, he has experience of mental health difficulties (including neuropsychological deficits) experienced by children, adolescents and young adults.
This experience includes several years as a clinical lead for children and young people involving learning difficulties, poor academic attainment, delayed childhood development and emotional difficulties.
Historically, he fulfilled a post as clinical lead for the psychological assessment and intervention around specific childhood disorders (such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder and Conduct Disorder).
Dr Knowles continues to deliver specific assessments for learning ability, academic achievement, memory, attention, perception and executive skills. He also provides a range of psychological interventions (including cognitive behavioural therapy) for emotional and behavioural difficulties.
Dr Knowles is a member of the BPS Division of Neuropsychology. He is an Honorary Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Leeds, delivering training on childhood development, professional conduct and the use of psychometrics to assess children, young people and adults.
Expert Witness training is regularly undertaken as part of his continuing professional development.
