Dr McCormick

Dr Rachel McCormick is a member of the BPS Faculty for Children and Young People and a member of the national network for clinical psychologists working with looked after and adopted children.

Dr McCormick contributes, via legal instruction, to proceedings where concerns exist for child welfare and presentation, parenting capacity, learning ability, vulnerability and competence.

Clinically, Dr McCormick has experience with respect to the assessment and treatment of individuals with emotional and behavioural difficulties including adolescents with complex mental health difficulties - e.g. self-harm, low mood, anxiety, relationship difficulties and complex mental health problems. Therapeutically, Dr McCormick offers Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Systemic Therapy and attachment based therapies.

Dr McCormick’s experience includes being a clinical lead within the NHS for the provision of services to looked after and adopted children.

Dr McCormick has provided teaching to Huddersfield and Leeds universities. Beyond doctorate training, she has completed post-qualification training that explicitly focuses on attachment difficulties and the assessment of children within the care system.

Expert Witness training is regularly undertaken as part of her continuing professional development.
