Karin Westeman is a member of the BPS Faculty for Children and Young People and the Association for Child and Adolescent Mental Health.
Since 1990, Karin has successfully fulfilled a pivotal role in service development and management within a local child and adolescent mental health service.
Clinically, she has extensive experience of specialist assessments and interventions in early child development, child neuro-psychology and child protection as well as emotional and behavioural difficulties.
Locally, she leads the Special Assessment team for Children with Complex Communication Difficulties whilst providing consultation to local agencies such as the local authority Social Services Children & Families teams.
In addition, Karin Westeman provides expert assessments and reports commissioned by Local Authority Legal services in relation to care proceedings.
She has longstanding experience of teaching and training to NHS professional staff and staff working with children within the Local Authority and Voluntary sectors.
Prior to working in the NHS she taught psychology at both under- and postgraduate levels in higher education.
Aside from specialist clinical work with child development and neuro-developmental disorders, Karin has an interest as advocate and psychologist for children’s welfare concerning issues of culture, ethnicity, bilingualism and geographic separation from carers (particularly for European and Scandinavian countries).
